How to use a file sharing link

Choose the right file, decide on a password and expiry, send its download link and close access when the recipient has finished.

Select the correct resource first

A sharing link lets a recipient access selected content. Check the name and scope when creating one from a file or folder menu. Sharing a folder may expose more than the single photo you had in mind. Open the file in your own panel to confirm it is the intended version before sending it. Make sure you are authorised to share any private information it contains.

Choose password and expiry deliberately

Password protection is optional. Anyone holding a valid unprotected link can access the content assigned to it. If you set a password, the recipient needs that too; consider communicating it through a different channel for a sensitive transfer. An expiry limits the access period. Allow the recipient enough time without leaving access open longer than needed.

What the recipient does

The person opening the link reaches a download screen without registering for FileUSB. A protected share asks for its password before Download File can be used. If downloading does not start, they can check the browser notification and downloads list. Previewing is not the same as saving a file to the device, and an appropriate viewer may be needed to open the downloaded format.

After the transfer

Close the share in your panel when finished. An expired or closed link should no longer grant new access, but this does not erase a copy already downloaded by the recipient. Check the scope again before sharing a newer version. The sharing and FileDrop page distinguishes sending from receiving. To ask someone to upload files to you, follow the FileDrop guide instead. Track storage duration separately through your account’s plan conditions, because link expiry and account retention are different limits.
